Another great day today visiting some of the local producers from Edinburgh farmer’s market.  We went first to East Coast Organics who are producing wonderful vegetables and salads just 10 miles from Edinburgh.  Once again it was really inspiring to see the variety of produce available right on our doorstep, even so early in the season.  It was also exciting to get a glimpse of whats to come - the runner beans just beginning to climb upwards, and the first radishes and salad turnips starting to appear.  From East Coast we cycled a few miles towards the coast to Ballencrieff, where Peter McLaren farms 3 different rare pedigree breeds of pig: Berkshire, Saddleback and Gloucester Old Spot.  These are really lovely animals, traditionally farmed and allowed to run outside all year.  Peter also cures his own bacon and makes his own award-winning sausages, some of which will definitely make it onto our brunch menu tomorrow at the market. Our pop-up is at the market every fair Saturday. Sign up to our newsletter or email eat@thegardenerscottage.co  to find out more and to book.
